Playing Groups

We offer a range of golf programmes designed to suit players of all ages, stages, and interests. Whether you're new to the game, returning after some time away, or looking to join a social or competitive group, there's something here for you!

Below, you'll find a snapshot of each of our Sector Playing Groups to help you find the one that best fits your goals, schedule, and style of play. We’re here to help you feel at home on the course—no matter where you’re starting from.

The Federated Farmers Group

We are a social group of men, playing 18 holes every Friday.  We aim for a good standard - we play off the blue tees and most members who play with us have handicaps from +2 to 21, but anyone is welcome.  Each week we pool the names of players so we play in different groups.

The entrance fee is $10 dollars each week, and of this $4 is held in a bank account attached to the Waikanae Golf Club to help with any course changes or requests to help fund a worthwhile golf project e.g. the gravel path from the 16th green to the 17th tee and, this year, the Youth Competition being started by our General Manager Chris Judd. The left-over money is given out as prizes depending on how many people are playing.

Our first tee time is 11.24am,  but anyone wishing to join in should be there between 10.30 and 11.00 and advise the shop they are playing with the feds off the blue tees.  Most of the group meets in the club house after they play for a drink and a bite. We would love to see you there and welcome you into our group.

THE CARDIE GROUP

We began as the Quinovic Group with Ross Davey in the early 90’s. It was renamed as the Cardie group after Brian Cardiff, one of our more colourful members, who passed in 2017.

Mostly we play off the white tees and we tee off around 12:00, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Anyone playing needs to be there by 11:30 for a 11:40 draw – for Saturday tee times need to be booked. Wednesday we are often joined by some from Fed Farmers. The finish time of 4 to 5pm ensures that friendship is as important as the golf; at least once we get into the 19th.

Entry cost is $10 + $1 for each weasel (a hole scoring no stableford). All money collected is paid out on the day. We pay for best stableford, 4-ball match results, birdies, and 2xclose-to-pins, so money is generally well spread. We also levy $2 each round which goes into a designated fund with WGC which is put toward worthy club causes, preferably on the course. This fund raises around $3,500 pa.

It costs $4 to enter with an optional shop competition of $2. On Wednesdays we have a roll up and play the back 9 meeting at either 9am or 12.30pm. On Fridays we play the front 9 as an informal roll up, meeting at 9.45am in the Ladies Locker Room.

After our games, we get together upstairs in the club house for a cuppa and a friendly chat. A weekly update newsletter is emailed with important dates, upcoming competitions and results. We look forward to welcoming you to our amazing group.

9 Hole Mid-Week Men

Nine Hole Mid-Week Men are a long standing group of keen golfers who for all sorts of reasons play nine holes of golf each time they come to the course.  All golfers are welcome to join us regardless of their age or golfing ability.

We have a roll-up every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  We arrive before 12.30pm for tee off at around 12.45pm.  Each time we are mixed up and play with a different group of golfers.

Wednesday is competition day.  Entry is $3.00 and a wide range of competitions are competed for across the year.  These include putting, single stroke play, stableford, singles match play and pairs match play.  Several cups and trophies are competed for each year.  On Wednesday’s golf balls are handed out for first and second place in that days competition, as well as for closest to the hole on no. 4 and for those getting a two.

Why not join us – make time to play nine with our friendly and welcoming group!
